ST. FELIX OF DUNWICH, BISHOP & CONFESSOR, March 8th

Collect

G
RANT, we beseech thee, Almighty God : that the devout observance of this festival of blessed Felix, thy Confessor and Bishop, may be profitable unto us for our advancement in all godliness, and for the attainment of everlasting salvation. Through Jesus Christ thy Son our Lord, Who liveth and reigneth with thee, in the unity of the Holy Ghost, ever one God, world without end. Amen.

For the legend

THIS Felix was born in Burgundy, where he became a priest, and ministered to an exile, whom he converted and baptized, namely Sigbert, Prince of East Anglia. Which same, when he was recalled, and ascended to the throne of his fathers, appealed to his spiritual father to come and make Christians of the East Anglians. And preaching mightily through Suffolk, Norfolk, and Cambridgeshire, Saint Felix established the Church there, and was made Bishop of Dunwich, where he died in peace in 648. But the town of Dunwich, was later washed away by the sea, and is now to be remembered chiefly because of the glory imparted to it by its first Bishop.
